Kyle N. before and after 3D body scans at Kraken
3 months · semi-private training

He didn't need more effort. He needed a plan.

202 → 177 lbs · 14.4 inches off his torso · 3.5 inches off his waist

If this is you: Twenties, working a trade or just out of school. You've been in a gym before and you know the basics. You've never had a plan, though, and the weight hasn't moved. It's not effort you're missing.

Where Kyle started

Kyle was in school for mathematics when he started at Kraken. He's since finished and works as an aircraft mechanic. Straight to the point, easy to talk to, not much gets under his skin. Freddy's first read on him: "You ask him to jump and he asks how high."

He'd spent some time in gyms before. Never with a trainer. He knew what the equipment did, but nobody had ever shown him what a weight loss program actually looks like: what to track, what to aim for, how to run a deficit without starving.

Food was okay. Big portions, some snacking, no real idea how much he was eating in a day. He came in wanting to lose weight and didn't have a number in mind. He and Freddy looked at his first 3D scan together, picked a healthy body fat range to aim for, and got started.

What Freddy saw

The movement screen was the easy part. Kyle scored 19 out of 21, which is about as clean as a new client gets. Stress was low. Sleep was okay, not great. Steps were low.

None of that was the limiter. Structure was. Kyle had the work ethic, and the body was ready. What he didn't have was a framework: a way to see what he was eating, a target to aim at, and someone to adjust it week to week. Freddy's job was to hand him the map, not to make him try harder.

The first thing they changed

Tracking. That was it. Log everything, be accurate, don't change anything yet.

The first week was messy while he figured it out. By the second week it was locked in. Freddy describes the tracking chart going from bouncing around "like a music equalizer" to a steady line.

Here's the part that surprised Kyle. They weren't cutting calories yet. They were just working out what his maintenance was. And the weight started coming down anyway, purely because he could finally see what he was eating and it got consistent. Freddy's read on that moment: "this is a lot easier and less invasive than I thought."

Steps came up at the same time. Freddy told him to walk more, and within the first month he was over 9,000 a day.

The hard part

There wasn't much of one. No bad weeks, no blow-up weekends, no tough conversations. When someone follows the plan this closely, the results are close to mechanical.

The one moment of doubt came during the rebuild. After the cut, Freddy started adding calories back, mostly carbs, a little each week, and the weight kept dropping. Then one week it stalled.

Kyle messaged Freddy, worried. Was this normal?

Freddy's answer was the last thing Kyle expected. Yes, it's normal. Keep doing exactly what you're doing. And here's a bit more food for next week.

The weight dropped again the following week.

Freddy sees this a lot. Being told to eat more when the scale has stopped moving feels backwards. Kyle got through it because he'd already watched the system work once.

When it clicked

Two moments. The first was watching the weight come down before the formal cut had even started. That was when fat loss stopped looking like suffering.

The second was the plateau week. Freddy added food, the scale moved, and after that there was no more second-guessing.

There was a bench press fix along the way too. During one of their monthly check-ins Kyle mentioned his bench wasn't improving. Freddy looked at his form, adjusted a couple of things, and the strength has been climbing since.

Where Kyle is now

  • Walks into the gym and everyone knows him. Chats with the other clients like he's been there for years
  • Trains two sessions a week completely on his own, no hand-holding
  • Noticeably stronger across his lifts, bench especially
  • 202 → 177 lbs in 3 months
  • 14.4 inches off his torso across four landmarks
  • 3.5 inches off his waist
  • Body fat down 3.8 points between his two scans
  • Steps: low → 9,000+ a day
  • Next: still going. Three months in, and the trajectory says there's more to come

Freddy: "You just tell him how it is. He goes, 'Yeah, okay, cool,' and then does it. He's a good soldier. Any captain would be happy to have him."

If you're like Kyle

If you've been going to the gym and nothing's changing, you probably don't have a motivation problem. You have a structure problem. Kraken's coaches find the one thing holding you back and start there, and often it's simply that nobody ever showed them how a fat loss plan works. You don't need a coach standing over you five days a week, either. Kyle got here on two group sessions, two solo sessions, and one check-in a month. The free week is where it starts.
